Hi There!!!

I have a big problem... After my computer has been formated, and I have
installed my Sims again - My game doesn't seem to work anymore.
I start the game, and the "EA - Challenge Everyting presention" runs, and
then my screen goes totally black.
It's a clean installation with no 3 party object/skins etc., and I have all
the EP's - What can I do to make my Sims work again - I have just got a new
videocard (3D)???
Please help me - Thanks ;o)

your graphics card should also have the latest drivers also make sure you
have the DirectX 09B installed. goto START - RUN and type DXIAG make sure
you can run all of the D3D tests also make sure your sound card drivers are
up to date also what OS are you running?? Win XP, Win 98SE or (gasp!!) WIN

Also - If using XP this might help.

Your monitor may not be able to keep up with your powerful video card.
Remember that older monitors have resolution/refresh rate limits and can be
damaged if you don't get them right.
The screen goes black whilst struggling to get the screen resolution right.
The Sims only runs in two modes.
Your screen might be running at a higher resolution like 1280*1024 pixels so
you'd need only to wait for the screen to change if you have opted for
"changing the settings without having to restart the machine". (General
settings).

Check your screen properties by right clicking on the desktop. "Settings"
Try changing from 32 bit to 16 medium and check the refresh rates by
clicking on the Advanced button. Monitor - tick "hide rates that the
monitor cannot display". Try something like 75 (if CRT) for older monitors.
Have you got a specific driver for your monitor. If so "List all modes"
will show you what it will support.

It helps to clear the "temp" etc files and stop unnecessary programs before
running the game to enable the Ram and pagefiles to cope with the swapover.

(and make sure the video card is properly pushed/seated into the machine)!
